HARROW BAPTIST CHURCH

Children’s Organisations

The Church has a ‘Safe to Grow’ policy as we recognise the importance of child protection. As part of this, we aim to have all leaders and regular helpers CRB checked.

Young Ones

This is our toddler group for 0-3 year olds with their parent or carer, run by a group of volunteers who are also members of the church. We organise a range of fun-filled activities which include floor and table toys, books, sticking, play dough, slide and finish with a short singing session.

Cost £1.00 per session per family.

The Wednesday morning sessions are very popular and are run as a “drop in” session. A maximum of 40 children, with their Parent/carer are accommodated at any one session. There are vacancies in the Thursday afternoon group.

Contact the church office on 020 8863 7837 for further details.

16th Harrow Brownies and Guides

These are part of GirlGuiding UK, which is a worldwide uniformed organisation for girls. Both groups are open units, having girls from all faiths and cultures.

The Brownie pack is for girls aged 7-10+ And meets between 6.00 p.m. and 7.30 p.m. on Friday evenings. A varied programme is organised which includes games, craft activities, cooking and badge work. Above all we aim to have fun.

The leaders are Penny Hunt and Heena Mistry with additional help from young leaders.

The Guide company is for girls aged 10-14+ and meets between 7.30 p.m. and 9.15 p.m. on Friday evenings. Activities include games, cooking, crafts and badge work. Some of the evenings are planned by the girls themselves. We support a different charity each year and at present are looking at the work of CamFed, a charity which provides schooling for girls in Africa. The mini Christmas Fair in 2008 raised money for this.

We have a week camp each year and also a Winter Weekend away.

The leaders are Chris Hughes, Heena Mistry and Alison Dawson, helped by a group of young leaders – older girls now too old to be Guides.

Rangers

Is a group for girls aged 14+.  They meet every Friday at the same time as the Guides. Most of the girls have come up through Brownies and Guides. They organise a variety of activities and have supported various charities. They also joined the Guides at their summer camp. Some of the girls help with Brownies and are working towards their Duke of Edinburgh Award.

The leaders are Janet Thompson and Nicky Lester.

Creche

This is for 0-3year old children and runs concurrently with the Sunday morning church service, in a comfortable carpeted room upstairs. It is organised by a group of church members on a rota basis. The Church service is relayed through a speaker system to the room used.

Stars

This is the group for children aged 3-7+. They take part in an age appropriate Bible-based programme using material from the Scripture Union.

Galaxy

This is the group for children over 7 years of age. They also participate in a Bible-based programme with Scriptural teaching and discussions. They occasionally have a games morning.

Both these groups join the adult congregation in the main Church for the first part of the Sunday morning service.
